CASA CONSTÂNCIA
Porto, Portugal
Designed as a lived-in library, this compact house centres around a single, defining gesture: a long, continuous shelf that spans the main wall and subtly shapes the entire layout. More than just storage, the shelf becomes the spine of the house organising space, guiding circulation, and making room for the lives and collections of its inhabitants.
With no hallways to interrupt the flow, the social spaces — kitchen, dining, and living — form a single open plan, creating an atmosphere that is both generous and intimate. Two bedrooms and a bathroom complete the main volume, while a second building discreetly houses a studio, laundry, and storage.
The home opens fully to the gardens, patios, and pool, blurring the boundary between inside and out. Every decision, from the layout to the smallest detail, was made with the people living here in mind: a couple with a deep love for books, records, and film. Their collections are not an afterthought, but the very framework of the home.
